Introduced during the latter half of the 1960s, this 1967 Omega Seamaster Chronograph ref. 145.006 belongs to a relatively short-lived generation of professional Omega chronographs. Its approximately 38mm stainless-steel case adopted the broader, flowing profile characteristic of Omega’s changing design language of the period, while retaining a traditional three-register chronograph layout. The reference is firmly documented in 1967: Christie’s records a ref. 145.006 delivered to Australia on 3 November 1967, while another documented example with movement no. 25,441,344 was delivered to the Virgin Islands that year.
At its heart is the celebrated manually wound Omega calibre 321, a 17-jewel, column-wheel chronograph movement developed from the Lemania 2310 architecture. The calibre is particularly significant within Omega’s history for its simultaneous use in the Speedmaster, including the generation of Speedmasters associated with NASA’s Apollo programme. Your movement number, 25,448,608, sits extremely close to the documented 25,441,344 ref. 145.006 delivered in 1967, providing particularly strong period evidence for the dating of this example. The 145.006 represents one of the comparatively few non-Speedmaster references in which Omega housed the calibre 321 during its final years of production.
This example retains several desirable period details, including its signed Omega winding crown and period Omega-signed buckle. These complement the Seamaster’s distinctive case and make the watch an interesting counterpoint to the better-known Speedmaster: mechanically it shares the same sophisticated column-wheel calibre, but presents it within a more conventional and comparatively restrained Seamaster chronograph. Omega subsequently replaced the 145.006 with the closely related ref. 145.016, which adopted the newer calibre 861, making the 145.006 part of the final generation of Seamaster chronographs powered by the original calibre 321.
