This 1989 Rolex GMT-Master reference 16700 represents the final evolution of the single-crown GMT lineage before the introduction of the 16710 with its independently adjustable hour hand. It was powered by the calibre 3175, an automatic chronometer movement featuring quickset date and hacking seconds — the last GMT calibre before Rolex fully separated the GMT and hour functions. The watch retains the beloved “Pepsi” bezel insert in vivid red and blue, paired with the classic black dial with applied white gold hour markers.
This example is fitted with its original stainless steel Oyster bracelet, reference 78360, featuring 501B solid end links and a matching coded clasp. The bracelet’s flat three-link design balances robustness with comfort, perfectly complementing the 40mm Oyster case with its sharp chamfers and slim profile typical of late 1980s production.
