The Tudor Black Bay 79230N is a modern reinterpretation of Tudor’s vintage dive watches, particularly drawing inspiration from the brand’s early Submariner models of the 1950s. Released in 2016, the 79230N features a 41mm stainless steel case, a domed sapphire crystal, and the signature “big crown” without crown guards—reminiscent of the vintage Tudor 7922. The black bezel with gilt markings gives the watch a classic, understated look, while the snowflake hands, a hallmark of Tudor’s dive watches since the late 1960s, provide a bold contrast against the black dial. With 200 meters of water resistance and a choice of a riveted steel bracelet, leather strap, or fabric NATO-style strap, the 79230N is a versatile and robust timepiece for daily wear.
Powering the Black Bay 79230N is Tudor’s in-house Caliber MT5602, a COSC-certified automatic movement known for its durability and precision. The MT5602 features a 70-hour power reserve, allowing the watch to run for nearly three days without winding. It operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour (4Hz) and includes a silicon balance spring, providing better resistance to magnetism and temperature variations. Unlike its ETA-powered predecessors, this movement was a significant upgrade, offering improved autonomy and accuracy. With its robust build, long power reserve, and vintage-inspired aesthetics, the Tudor Black Bay 79230N has become a favorite among enthusiasts seeking a timeless yet modern dive watch.
