The Breitling Montbrillant Olympus ref. A19340 is one of the more technically ambitious watches to emerge from Breitling’s early-2000s Montbrillant collection, a range whose name recalls the historic Rue de Montbrillant manufacture in La Chaux-de-Fonds. Its 43mm stainless-steel case houses the automatic, COSC-certified Breitling Calibre 19, combining the brand’s traditional chronograph expertise with an unusually comprehensive calendar display. The dial indicates the day of the week, date and month alongside a moon-phase display and 24-hour indication, while the chronograph records elapsed seconds, minutes and hours. Surrounding this is Breitling’s characteristic circular slide rule, allowing calculations such as multiplication, division, speed, distance and fuel consumption — a direct continuation of the aviation-oriented functionality associated with the Navitimer family.
What distinguishes the A19340 from a conventional chronograph is the amount of information mechanically coordinated within a single watch. Its calendar automatically follows the progression of the day, date and month, while the moon-phase display represents the approximately 29½-day lunar cycle through a rotating disc. The 24-hour indication provides an immediate distinction between AM and PM, particularly useful when setting the calendar mechanism, while the chronograph operates independently to time individual events. This example is fitted to its Breitling stainless-steel bracelet and is accompanied by its original box, papers and hangtag, forming a particularly complete surviving set of this complicated Montbrillant-era Breitling.
This example presents with a particularly sharp and neatly preserved stainless-steel case, retaining strong definition to its original lines and proportions. The case surfaces remain well defined, with crisp transitions between the polished and finished areas, complementing the substantial Breitling bracelet and the characteristically detailed Montbrillant dial. Given the complexity and visual density of the A19340, the clean condition of the case gives this example a notably well-preserved overall appearance.
